Esther S. Breiding, age 77 of Grand Haven, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on September 25, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Dr. Robert W. and Mary Louise (Shaughnessy) Stevens. Esther married Raymond Breiding on April 24, 1971, in St. Louis, and together they had four children.
Esther graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in St. Louis and then earned her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Louis University. She was a self-employed consultant within the Healthcare industry where she spent years working for hospitals and other healthcare facilities during her career.
Esther loved spending time with her family and she and Ray often took the kids camping. She was an avid reader and counted cross-stitcher who enjoyed keeping active playing tennis and golf in her younger years. She especially enjoyed doing water aerobics with her girlfriends.
Esther was a long-time member of St. Patrick - St. Anthony Catholic Parish where she sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic minister for several years. She was also a former member of the Sweet Adeline’s. Esther and Ray traveled to 17 countries internationally, and recently completed visiting all 50 United States.
Esther is survived by her loving husband of almost 53 years, Raymond; and their four children: Matthew (Jessica) Breiding, Patrick (Yelena) Breiding, Anne (Chris) Todd, and Christopher (Sarah) Breiding; seven grandchildren: Henry, Ellie, Owen, Mason, Emerald, Katie, and Victoria; her sisters: Edna Stevens, Mary (Don) Wilson, and Peggy Stevens; sisters-in-law: Susie Stevens, Fran Wenzel, Sharon McCormick, and Cindy (Paul) Grapperhaus; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Festus Stevens.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Esther will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at St. Patrick - St. Anthony Catholic Parish with Fr. Dan Schumaker officiating. Visitations will be held on Thursday April 18th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with a Rosary Recital at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
